While a bespoke suit is tailored precisely to a specific moment in time, the human body is inherently fluid. The mark of truly exceptional tailoring is that it anticipates change. High-quality garments are constructed with adequate inlays—excess fabric hidden in the seams—allowing the suit to be let out or taken in as the patron’s physique evolves.
"An off-the-rack garment resists alteration, constrained by its mechanical origins. A bespoke garment welcomes it, possessing the structural memory to adapt."
Structural Limitations
Not all alterations are equally feasible. Adjusting the waist of trousers or taking in the side seams of a jacket are standard procedures. However, modifying the shoulders—the absolute anchor point of any coat—is highly complex and often inadvisable. If the shoulders do not fit, the garment fundamentally does not fit.
Common Refinements
- Sleeve Length: Can be adjusted from the cuff or, for a cleaner finish on patterned cloth, from the shoulder crown.
- Collar Gap: Lowering the collar to eliminate the unsightly gap between the jacket and the shirt collar.
- Trouser Break: Hemming the trousers to dictate how sharply they rest atop the shoe (no break, slight break, or full break).
Our tailoring house approaches alterations with the identical reverence we apply to new commissions, ensuring the original silhouette and internal canvas integrity are strictly maintained.
